Call the Midwife
There are 12 seasons of this available on Netflix and they are currently airing s13 and I watched every damn one of them and it's absolutely sublime, albeit in that British sort of way. Over the course of its duration characters come in and come out without any loss of quality thanks to the writing of Heidi Thomas and others. You will grow to love these characters and you will probably cry every episode and you will witness hundreds of childbirths, but the show is a joy. (season 11 is the best) It takes place in real time, show starts in London circa 1958 and each season another year turns with all the historical accoutrements which lends to its authenticity and each season has a Christmas special. It may be a little reserved, melodramatic and slow for American tastes, but English people are far more reserved in general so this tracks. That very high rating of 8.6 might be too low...TAKE THE PLUNGE you wont regret it.
