Queen's Gambit

 

I made my third pass through of this series over the weekend and I am convinced this is the best Mini Series Netflix has every produced. Anya Taylor Joy plays a child prodigy chess champion with substance abuse problems. ATJ was born to play this role. My favorite actress, brings the goods here. She steals basically every scene she is in and this wonderfully written script unfolds perfectly throughout the 8 episodes. Set in the 1960's the set designs and customs are visually striking and the period authenticity is spot on and enhanced by a great soundtrack. ATJ provides many OMG moments with just the clothes she is wearing. The outfit in the final scene is so good it could have very well been a photo shoot. A nearly perfect show anchored by a nearly perfect actress.
