One Battle After Another

Based on the Thomas Pynchon book Vineland, a pair of revolutionaries fight oppression in a racist, right-wing America. (yes, it's not very far from where we are now) After a child, retirement and 16 years passes, an old enemy resurfaces forcing DiCaprio back into the fold to rescue his daughter from his grip. Quirky, darkly funny and full of action Anderson takes us on quite the journey. The acting, the script and above all the cinematography shine here. Paul Thomas Anderson has a particular style as does Thomas Pynchon and the melding of styles works quite well and much better effort than his previous Pynchon adaptation, Inherit Vice. It won't be for all tastes, but it will hit home for some. If you like Tarantino, you are probably going to enjoy this. I imagine this will garner several Oscar Nominations but I am uncertain how many it will be in serious consideration for, it maybe too unconventional to make a big splash come award season. Either way, this film is worth seeing. Highly recommended.
